Spatial Mapping Framework

GIS-based multi-criteria analysis of 347 surveyed sites systematically maps KP's aquaculture potential. Elevation ranges from 150m in the plains to 7,000m+ in the mountains, creating distinct agro-ecological zones for different species.

The Four Zones

Zone 1 — Cold-Water (600-3,500m)

Swat & Chitral trout zones; glacial hydrology ideal for export-quality Rainbow & Brown Trout

Zone 2 — Semi-Cold-Water

Transitional niche suited to multi-species culture, particularly native Mahseer

Zone 3 — Warm-Water (150-800m)

Peshawar Basin & Gomal Zam Irrigated Zone; Carp, Tilapia, Pangasius culture

Zone 4 — Saline Water

Karak's saline groundwater — emerging frontier for Vannamei shrimp farming

Clustering Strategy

78% of "Very High Priority" trout sites cluster within 50km of Swat and Kaghan valleys, creating natural focal points for hatchery, feed mill, and cold storage investment. Warm-water sites are more dispersed, requiring a governance model built around canal networks and large-scale market access.
